מועמדים חסרי רקע בלימודי היסטוריה של תקופת השואה יידרשו ללמוד קורס “מבוא לשואה”. הקורס הינו מתוקשב ועל הסטודנט להשלימו עד תחילת שנת הלימודים

משך הלימודים

משך הלימודים בתכנית הוא שנה קלנדרית (שלושה סמסטרים – כולל סמסטר קיץ). הלימודים יתפרסו על פני יומיים וחצי בשבוע. ניתן לפרוס את הלימודים על פני שנתיים וללמוד פעם בשבוע

עבור תלמידים במסלול עם כתיבת עבודת גמר מחקרית (תזה) תינתן שנה נוספת לכתיבת עבודת התזה

Program Objective

The prime program objective is training young scholars – of different origins – in the field of Holocaust studies, while providing them with vast, multidisciplinary education which would enable them to conduct their own independent research.

The program is unique in the sense that is sets out to expose its students to various intellectual fields in the realms of Humanities and Social Sciences (History, education, social psychology, anthropology, genocide, Museology and art), alongside providing them with versatile research methods – of both humanities and social sciences – through guided work in different archives, studying relevant languages, enriching extracurricular activities, guest lectures and educational field trips in Israel.

The program is also unique thanks to the cooperation with different museums and archives of the period of the Holocaust in Israel, such as The Ghetto Fighters’ House, Yad VaShem, The Chaim Herzog Museum of the Jewish Soldier in World War II, and abroad such as: Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, the Buchenwald Memorial, the House of the Wannsee Conference, the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, and others.  Through internship opportunities at these institutions, students gain practical experience in archival work, the implementation of educational projects, and the development of innovative initiatives. In addition, they have the opportunity to conduct research based on primary sources and to develop their academic research and writing skills.

The program is aimed for both Israeli and International students and will be conducted in English

Application Requirements

An undergraduate degree achieved from a recognized academic institute in Israel or abroad

A minimum 3.0 GPA or an 80% average

A minimum grade of 85 on the internet-based TOEFL exam (students who have graduated from an academic institute where the language of instruction was English will be exempted from this requirement)

Statement of Purpose

Prerequisites

Students that lack an academic background in history will be required to take an extra course of Introduction to Holocaust. The course will be taken on-line. The students will be requested to complete the course prior to the start of the academic year.

Program Structure

We offer two tracks of study:

Track A – Thesis Track
Track B – Non Thesis Track – with a final exam / final project

Program Duration

The duration of the program is one year, 2.5 days per week (spread over 3 semesters – including a summer semester). The program can be spread over two years (6 semesters), one day a week.

Requirements for Concluding the Program

Track A –  thesis track: 36 semestrial hours and a thesis paper which will count for 50% of the final grade.

Track B – non-thesis track: 38 semestrial hours and a final exam / final project that will count for 30% of the final grade.

Diploma

Once finishing the studies and after having completed the program’s requirements, each student will be qualified to earn a Master of Arts in Holocaust Studies from the University of Haifa.
